The most valuable diamond in the world is Koh-I-Noor, which is Persian for ‘Mountain of Light.’ It is colourless, oval-shaped, weighs 21.6 grams, and is of 105.6-carat. This diamond is so precious that its value isn’t estimated and remains priceless. It was once the largest diamond in the world. The origin of this diamond remains controversial and so its legends.

It was mined in the 1300s in Golconda region in India and considered to have belonged to many Persian, Sikh, Mughal, and Afghan rulers before Queen Victoria owned it. Legends have it that it was surrendered to Queen Victoria at the time of Treaty of Lahore in 1850. Queen Victoria adored this world-famous diamond in a brooch, which was later cut to fit the crown of the queen. Prince Albert got Koh-I-Noor cut to 105.6-carat (original size being 191-carat) to increase its brilliance. It was then fit to the crown of Queen Victoria. It is said that Queen Victoria stated in her will that Koh-I-Noor can be adorned only by a female monarch.

This diamond is a property of the British crown. It is displayed in Jewel House at HM Tower of London and is a huge tourist attraction.
